On September 3, 2002, the Access Board published new ADA Guidelines that address access for persons with disabilities to a wide variety of recreation facilities. The guidelines specify accessibility requirements for amusement rides, boating facilities, fishing piers & platforms, golf courses and driving ranges, miniature golf courses, sports facilities, swimming & wading pools, and fitness clubs. The new Guidelines are effective 3 October 2002 for all new or renovated facilities.

The Guidelines require an accessible route to all facilities plus many accessibility requirements within the facilities. For miniature golf courses, a minimum of 50% of the holes must be accessible and have accessible routing at the beginning and end of the accessible holes.
