Fox Sports Grill Expands

It appears ESPN Zone and Champps Entertainment, two chains that target customers who want to dine in a sophisticated sports environment (another variation on FF&F, see above article) are getting a competitor. Fox Sports Grill has opened its second unit in Irving, CA. ESPN Zone, owned by Disney, currently operates eight locations and Champps Entertainment operates or franchises 51 Champps Americana units.

The newest Fox Sports Grill occupies 27,000 square feet, which is 50% larger than its first location in Scottsdale, AZ. The new unit includes a bowling alley, billiards, indoor putting green, games, cigar lounge, private dining room and a sports bar. The dining room will be a television-free zone. Fox hopes to differentiate itself from its competitors by appealing to the local market rather than the tourist-driven market and by having more of a restaurant focus (there IT is again!).
