Household expenditures for all types of out-of-home entertainment and recreation* are not keeping up with inflation. For all U.S. households, average spending only increased by 9% between 2019 and 2023, far less than the 19% inflation increase. By regions of the U.S., expenditures kept pace with inflation except for the South, where average expenditures decreased by 10% since 2019.
* Entertainment and recreation expenditures include fees and admissions for all types of entertainment venues, sports, cultural venues, museums, recreational lessons, and memberships for social, recreation, and health clubs.
