Post-pandemic nonresidential construction costs up more than one-third

This October, nonresidential construction costs were 36% higher than in February 2020, right before the start of the pandemic.

The increases to construction materials were identical at 36%.

This impacts the feasibility of new location-based entertainment projects (LBEs), as there has not been a comparable increase to the prices newly constructed LBEs can charge to offset the increased construction costs. For example, there has only been a nine percent increase over the same time span in the producer price index for food and beverages purchased at restaurants and bars and only a 14% increase for costs at amusement and theme parks.
