Walk around portable food

At agritourism farm festivals, attendees often look for food and snacks they can carry around rather than sit at a picnic table. MOD Pizza just introduced a new LTO food item that could be an excellent option to consider. They call it a handheld 'Pocket Pie.'

Their Pocket Pies are folded small pizzas. MOD offers three varieties:

  • Italiano - a white sauce base packed with shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese, pepperoni, salami, roasted red peppers, sliced tomatoes, fresh basil and arugula, and red sauce.
  • Chicken bacon ranch - a white sauce base filled with shredded mild-cheddar cheese, chicken, bacon, and finished with a tasty ranch drizzle.
  • Four-cheese - a white sauce base filled with freshly shredded mild cheddar, mozzarella, asiago, and parmesan cheese.

Southern fruit hand pie

The Pocket Pies are priced at $7.99 - $9.56 depending on the location in the U.S. and $12.99 in Canada. They will be available through early June.

These pizza Pocket Pies are definitely a better solution than asking people to walk around with a slice of pizza. They are similar to a Calzone, the difference being they're smaller and not sealed, more open like a taco.

In a sense, MOD's Pocket Pies are a variation of a popular handheld at many southern agritourism farms, the fruit hand pie. Fruit hand pies were inspired by Latino empanadas that include savory proteins rather than fruit fillings.

In a sense, MOD Pizza is introducing a variation of an empanada to North America, a pizza empanada.
