The International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry (IALEI) recently presented LouLou Al Dugong's, A Children's Play and Discovery Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with its Golden Token Award for Best Brochure. The Award was accepted by the project designer Vicki Stoecklin with the White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group of Kansas City, MO during the co-located Fun Expo and AMOA Expo this past year in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.
LouLou Al Dugong's, a children's leisure center that features edutainment, culture, and ecology, is a 25,000-sq.-ft facility located on the ground floor of the five-story Lamcy Plaza, one of the world's largest department stores. The center was designed and produced by White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group. This unique facility accommodates the multi-cultural family society of Dubai which is comprised of 25% Arabs, 50% Indians, and 25% Western expatriates. It also accommodates both disabled children and adults. Other unique offerings include a dinosaur dig, pretend henna/mendhi and an upscale café.
The award-winning brochure, produced under direction of Amina Thomas, the center's Education Director, is as stylish and uncommon as the facility it represents. The glossy, four-color brochure folds out into a full-size child's growth chart along with photos depicting the activities found at the center. Photos with descriptions showcase the sand and dinosaur dig area, children's face painting activities, the pretend village, the infant/toddler haven, the computer area, the art studios, a traditional Dhow boat, an interactive kitchen, a water area, a reading room, a miniatures play area, a redemption and gaming section, and birthday party rooms. The brochure's layout is the same on the front and back because it is a Arabic and English bilingual piece accommodating the diverse community it serves.
