Who's vacationing where this summer?

Nearly seven in ten Americans (68%) have at least one leisure vacation trip planned for this summer (May through August), a slight increase from the 66% who planned one last year and a more significant increase from 60% in 2012. Those planning leisure travel this summer anticipate spending an average of $1,722 on their trips.

So what are the chosen destinations for those planning at least one vacation trip this summer. The beach is the number one destination for everyone, with 43% of all vacationers planning to visit one. Here's the breakdown by generation for beach, theme park and a leisure/discovery vacation (e.g., spa, wine country, golf or other unique attraction).

And here's a breakdown for those same three type destinations by households with and without children.
