Living arrangements of young adults

Speaking of Millennials in the previous article (www.whitehutchinson.com/ news/ lenews/ 2012/ may/ article108.shtml#article) , we thought we’d take a look to see what the 18-to-29-year-old segment of Millennials are up to with their lives. Are they postponing marriage, delaying parenthood and moving back with their parents? We found some answers to their living arrangements in the 2010 Census. 39% are heading their own households or are the spouse of the householders. One-third are the biological children of the householder, meaning they are living with their parents and 25% have some other relationship to the householder.

Here are their detailed living arrangements.

• Housemate or roommate: 6.6%
• Unmarried partner: 5.5%
• Brother or sister: 2.3%
• Grandchild: 2.3%
• Stepson or stepdaughter: 2.3%
• Son-in-law or daughter-in-law: 1.2%
• Roomer or boarder: 1.2%
• Adopted son or daughter: 0.8%
• Other relative of householder: 2.6%
• Other nonrelative of householder: 2.5%
