From the Editor

Our family went north to Alaska this winter in search of the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, as scientists call it. The magical curtains of light and ribbons of color unfurl in the midnight winter sky, and the experience is mesmerizing. At least, that’s what my family told me the next morning; I chose to stay snuggled in my bed. I’m a hearty soul, but I need my sleep. I bought a book instead and learned both the scientific and cultural meanings behind the Northern Lights.

Most of our immediate family was able to experience the Alaska tundra, a piece of nature that may be slowly disappearing with global warming. My grandson, Christian, and I shared a dog sled. He is a great musher, and yes, that’s ice on my eyelashes. I think I am ready for Spring!
