De-Ice Safely

Five years ago we wrote about nontoxic de-icers to use instead of rock salt, which is harmful to both humans and the environment, www.whitehutchinson.com/news/learnenews/2004/11_12/article103.shtml (www.whitehutchinson.com/ news/ learnenews/ 2004/ 11_12/ article103.shtml) . Since then, new products have become available on the market that use other materials such as calcium magnesium acetate or calcium chloride. There are now even plant-based bio-degradable de-icers.  The Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment (DfE) program thoroughly reviews products submitted by manufacturers for human and environmental impact.
