Designing Vibrant, Natural Landscapes for Early Childhood
This
new book, Small Wonders: Designing Vibrant, Natural Landscapes for
Early Childhood, is an introductory guide to creating dynamic, nurturing
and safe outdoor spaces for young children. Filled with beautiful photographs,
the book from the Canadian charity Evergreen captures the organization's
unique design approach and helps readers analyze and re-imagine their
existing site through a series of questions and suggestions. If you work
with young children -- whether as a day care center supervisor, director,
facility manager, staff member or parent -- this 35-page resource is for
you. Price: $10 CAN, plus shipping and handling.
You can order it from the Evergreen website:
http://www.evergreen.ca/en/lg/lg-resources.html
Evergreen is a registered national Canadian charity founded in
1991 with a mandate to bring nature to cities through naturalization projects.
The non-profit environmental organization motivates people to create and
sustain healthy, natural outdoor spaces and gives them the practical tools
to be successful through its three core programs:
- Learning Grounds: transforming school and child care grounds
- Common Grounds: conserving publicly accessible land
- Home Grounds: for the home landscape
Community naturalization is a collective effort that includes people
from all walks of life in the revitalization of their schools, homes and
communities, and ultimately, in the environmental, social and economic
functioning of their cities. Evergreen has published this new resource
to help you meet your goals of naturalization.
