Building or Renovating?

If you are planning to build or renovate space either indoors or outdoors be sure to join us for our Summer 2004 Early Childhood Facilities Design Institute on June 10-11, 2004 in Kansas City, MO. This is our second summer of offering the Institute and we expect 40 participants from all over the United States; last year we even had colleagues from Canada attend. The two-day course offers designers, early childhood staff and architects a forum to meet together and learn about designing high quality facilities for children and staff. One day is devoted to interior renovation and/or construction and one day is devoted to exterior renovation and/or construction. The only other place to get this type of training is at Harvard Design School which is very expensive. We are able to offer our course for just $279 and graduate credit is available from the Early Childhood Program at National Louis University in Wheeling, IL. The course is called ECE 544 Early Childhood Environments: Design and Facilities Management and meets the coursework for the Illinois Director Credential. So far we have had three colleagues take the course for graduate credit. Listed below are some of the types of people who have joined us at the Institute in the past:

• Early childhood students

• Interior designers
• Interior design students
• General contractors
• Facilities management staff
• Child care resource and referral staff
• Licensing representatives
• NAEYC Accreditation staff
• Tribal child care leaders
