ZANY BRAINY STORES WITHDRAW VIDEO GAMES
All
170 Zany Brainy stores are withdrawing all videogames. FAO Swartz, owners
of the chain of educationally oriented toy stores that targets parents and
children 3 to 10, cited a lack of content suitable for young children as their
reason. Jerry Welch, FAO's chief executive, said "there were not enough
quality products that were wholesome for kids." Zany Brainy only carried
E-rated videogames, which are geared for general audiences.
FAO will continue to sell videogames at its eight FAO Swartz flagship stores
for now, as those stores attract children as old as 15. However, the company
said it is "still reviewing that one closely as well."
