Editor's Corner

Our articles are not limited to this Leisure eNewsletter. I also have a blog where I occasionally write about topics relevant to the location-based leisure industry. If you haven't signed up to receive my blog emails, you've missed a really thought provoking one I sent out in October about the importance of offering contemporary food - Is Chuck E. Cheese's the Blockbuster Video of the Eatertainment Industry? All my blogs are archived online, so you can still check that one out by clicking here.

The IAAPA webinar How Digital is Disrupting the Entertainment Landscape I did in October with Kevin Williams of KWP Limited and Pete Stearns, Midway Operations Director at Dave & Buster's, was a great success. If you missed it and are an IAAPA member, you can download the presentation and listen to the recording in the IAAPA member section at http://www.iaapa.org/events-education/education/past-webinars.

As we get into the holiday season, our company always seems to get busier. Of course I'll be attending the IAAPA convention in Orlando. Then in early December, I'm flying down to Bogota, Columbia to work with an FEC chain. That will be the 33rd country we've worked on projects in. Following that I'll be flying to Reno, Nevada to begin work on feasibility and concept development for a new social eat-drink-play venue there. And these projects are in addition to our continuing design work on over 80,000 square feet of projects in the U.S. and Africa and our continuing feasibility and consulting work on many other projects in various phases of development.

As always, you'll find many of this issue's articles full of statistics and data. Sometimes the articles may seem a little academic or analytical, but that is only because our company believes in evidence-based design and development for our clients. The location-based leisure industry continues to be driven by many myths, paradigms and conventional wisdom, much of it that was never true and much that is now out-of-date due to the accelerating rate of change that leisure culture is undergoing due to evolving digital technologies, including at-home and mobile entertainment and socialization options. Our company spends an enormous amount of time and resources researching, studying and identifying societal trends that impact location-based leisure so we can offer our clients not only concepts that will work today, but that will be future proof for many more years. And we are pleased to share some of our findings with you our readers.

For all our readers, wishing you a great and joyful holiday season. And as always, I hope you enjoy the articles and will find some information of value.
