Institute Tour Announced for June 9, 2010, 10 a.m.-4 p.m

Once again, our Institute on Creating Sustainable Environments for Young Children is taking a day-long tour to visit sustainable sites around Kansas City, Missouri. On our first stop, we will tour the grounds of an urban nature center built with sustainable practices: the Anita Gorman Discovery Center. Here we will also learn about the new preschool nature curriculum called “Growing Up Wild.”

We will grab a quick and healthy box lunch and head to the “green” building supply store, www.elements-of-green.com, where we will take a look at healthy building materials. We will finish our tour at the one LEED Gold Certified elementary school in all of Missouri. We will visit 13 walking tour stations scattered around the building and site. This 82,000-square-foot green building serves 810 students.

To learn more about the Institute on Creating Sustainable Environments and how to create healthy and green child care spaces, or to register for the tour and event, go to www.whitehutchinson.com/children/sustainableinstitute.shtml. Register early, as we already have participants enrolled! See you in June at our fourth Institute on Creating Sustainable Environments for Young Children.
