Creating eco-healthy childcare environments

Once upon a time, it was difficult for parents to know how healthy a childcare environment was before placing their children there. Now Oregon parents can simply look for the "Eco-Healthy Childcare" program.

Help has arrived for parents who want to select a childcare environment that is as healthy as possible. The Oregon Environmental Council "Eco-Healthy Childcare" program is available to all childcare providers across the state. Childcare facilities can qualify as "eco-healthy" by completing a checklist that highlights 25 simple steps that ensure a safe place for children.

Click here to download the checklist: www.oeconline.org/teachers. Helpful resources are available on the website on a variety of topics for health and early childhood environments.

Eco-healthy childcare facilities commit to reducing a child's exposure to toxins and other environmental health hazards. Childcare facilities that qualify receive a colorful sticker and poster that demonstrates their commitment to being eco-healthy and lets parents and others know of their efforts.
