The data shows that the annual number of children born in the U.S. has declined by 364,000 or 8% since 2007. It is believed that the economic conditions brought on by the Great Recession triggered the baby bust. No one knows whether the recent baby bust is the beginning of a long-term trend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/US-births-1990-2011.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-402\" alt=\"US births 1990-2011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/US-births-1990-2011-300x204.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/US-births-1990-2011-300x204.png 300w, https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/US-births-1990-2011-1024x697.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/US-births-1990-2011.png 1411w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Births declined in every state except Alaska and North Dakota where the oil drilling boom has brought on a significant population increase. Arizona ranked worse with a 17% decline in births.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/births-by-state-07-11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-403\" alt=\"births by state 07-11\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/births-by-state-07-11-150x300.png\" width=\"150\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/births-by-state-07-11-150x300.png 150w, https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/births-by-state-07-11-512x1024.png 512w, https:\/\/www.whitehutchinson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/births-by-state-07-11.png 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The decline in births doesn\u2019t necessarily foretell the death of children\u2019s entertainment centers. The data is for large geographic areas. Within many metropolitan areas there are older areas with declining births and numbers of younger children and other younger and growing neighborhoods with increasing number of births and younger children.<\/p>\n<p>There will continue to be viable markets for children\u2019s entertainment centers.
