  <title>Germany Has 700 &quot;Forest Kindergartens&quot;</title>
  <description>It was Friedrich Frobel, the German educator, who began the first kindergarten, or &quot;children's gardens,&quot; in 1837. This radical form of education at the time included observing and nurturing plants in the natural world. Since the 1990s, parents and educators in Germany have established 700 kindergartens using somewhat the same principle. In a Waldkindergarten program, or &quot;forest kindergarten,&quot; children ages 3 to 6 spend their entire day in an outdoor environment.</description>

  <title>2008 Healthy Sprouts Awards</title>
  <description>The National Gardening Association recognizes outstanding gardening programs through the Healthy Sprouts Awards. To be eligible for the 2008 award, your school, center or organization must plan to garden in 2009 with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18. Winners are selected based on the demonstrated relationship between the garden program and U.S. nutrition and hunger issues. This year, 20 programs will be selected, and each will receive.</description>
