Welcome to the second issue of Agritainment Today, the only web-based publication focused on the agritainment industry.
If you haven't heard of our company, we're the Kansas City-based White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group. We specialize in feasibility, strategic and master planning, design and consulting for many different types of location-based children's and family entertainment and edutainment venues, including agritainment attractions. We have been working in agritainment for over 10 years. To learn more about us, go to www.whitehutchinson.com/leisure/agritainment.shtml.
This has been a busy year for us with agritainment work. We are currently developing strategic and master plans for Cherry-Crest Farm near Lancaster, PA; Belvedere Plantation in Fredericksburg, VA; and Lyman Orchards in the greater Hartford, CT, area. And we have also been working with Vala's Pumpkin Patch in Omaha, NE; The Rock Ranch in The Rock, GA; and our long-standing client, Davis' Farmland and Davis' MegaMaze in Sterling, MA.
The public's interest in visiting agritainment venues seems to be growing at a rapid rate and is offering many farmers new revenue opportunities. In fact, many of our agritainment clients are now deriving 100% of their income from agritainment, allowing them to hold onto farms they might have lost, due to the decreased profitability of their traditional farming activities.
As agritainment grows, it is becoming an increasingly sophisticated industry. Substantial capital investment and expertise are required to operate in the service sector, which is far different than a traditional farming operation. Agritainment is about creating experiences versus growing crops or raising animals (see our story below, Experiences - the 4th Economic Value). We enjoy working with farmers and assisting them in moving their businesses into the experience economy with agritainment.
We are pleased to share this issue of Agritainment Today with you. We hope you will find it useful. And if you missed our first issue, you can find it here.
